As part of everyday urban life, rattan chairs once appeared by West Lake, along the canal, and in the mountains, holding memories of cool shade and quiet conversation. In an increasingly modern city, perhaps only a less ordinary rattan chair can draw people to sit down again. To pause, to slow down, and to look more closely—Hangzhou is a place worth lingering in.
